PS2Hard Drives can be installed in a PS2 to store your games. Games and Movies and Music can be legally copied to make a backup copy of a game using a Computer and CD Writer or DVD Writer & Blank discs and can only play when a Playstation 2 is modified. Mod chips enable all region Games to play so users can order the latest games from Japan USA and Europe or Australia - All PAL and NTSC format games can play. PAL is the name of Australias and some other countries TV signal format. NTSC is used in USA and JAPAN and has a higher refresh rate and games appear full screen and have a faster frame rate in most NTSC games. PS2 can be turned into a cheap inexpensive computer server with Linux installed. Emulators to play arcade classics, SNES, Megadrive games can be booted off a disc. Check Laser Repairs for more info. The newer version PS2 consoles are manufactured with refined production runs and use better components. Playstation 2 Large models have some power board failure rate Playstation 2 Large models have some controller port failure rate Must buy a Memory Card to save games as console does not have hard drive like Xbox Must buy an extra adaptor to allow more than 2 game controllers to play 3-4 player games Standard Consles do not have RGB output so a conversion must be done to allow a user to connect the system to a Scart connector on a TV or Movies have a green wash through the picture. Only emulates Dolby 5.1 surround with software - unlike an Xbox that has a sound hardware chipset that allows for true Dolby Digital Sound output. Also very few games on Playstation 2 are using the better sound technologies. So Xbox definitely sounds much better than the Playstation 2 Console. Only has 4 meg of Video RAM which is an extremely small amount of Video Ram by todays standards- Even The Sega Dreamcast an earlier built console uses 8 Meg of Video RAM. Because of this the Playstation 2 also cannot compare to the Xbox's 64 Meg of Video RAM. The Playstation 2 games are very plain in color output and vibrancy in comparison to all the other consoles reviewed here.             One of the most popular of the current consoles and a huge installed user base meaning more gamers have bought this console than the other 3 compared. Not many gamers at all believed the Playstation 2 to be a huge leap in technology over the older Sega Dreamcast and many gamers in Australia are experiencing quality problems with their units sometimes only 6 months from purchasing it. Newer models of the Playstation 2 have fixed some of these quality concerns. Definitely a good console but no comparison to the Mighty Xbox. Sonys recent attempt to rally against modchips in the high courts in Australia is the biggest reason now that most gamers are now buying the better Microsoft Xbox.
